Hydroponic Gardens Ltd

Hydroponic Gardens Limited was established in 1964 by Garnet J Mulva who designed and built the installation. It was a large scale commercial plant, with sub-irrigation in gravel. In 1963, the business had begun research into the soil-less growing of flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Hydroponics was introduced to the Bahamas in the late 1940’s in New Providence, and by December 1950, approximately 1,500 heads of lettuce were cultivated by hydroponic farming. The cultivation was hoped to reduce the spending on imported produce from Florida and to supply fresh vegetables to the tourist trade in the Bahamas.
