On 1 January 1976, due to increases in international air mail, the following postal rates changed:
-
- 14c to 16c – Air mail for post cards to non-Bahamian destinations
- 14c to 16c – Air letters to non-Bahamian destinations
- 18c to 21c – First class air letter to the USA or Canada (per ½ oz.)
- 21c to 25c – First class air letter to the UK, Europe, South America, Central America and Bermuda (per ½ oz.)
- 46c to 40c – First class air mail to Africa, Asia, Australia and the Pacific & Indian oceans (per ½ oz.)
- 23c to 40c – Registration fee to non-Bahamian destinations.
Due to these changes in postal rates, three of the values of the 1971 Definitive Series were re-issued with new dominations.
