Bahamas Philately: 1967 Definitive Series – 4c Flamingo

FLAMINGO. The Scarlet-hued Flamingo (Phoenicopterus Ruber) has aptly been described as the King of the Bahamian Birds. It has been recorded locally since earliest times, but the only colonies of any size are now confined to Inagua & Andros. This was the “tall red bird” in Columbus’s account of his first voyage.
