COAT OF ARMS granted in 1728, consists of a crown on a red background, surmounting a naval scene alluding to the extirpation of piracy by Governor Woodes Rogers in 1718. The motto is Expulsis Piratis Restitua Commercia must have amused Governor Rogers who had been a pirate.
