Zambia Philately: 1965 1st Anniversary of Independence – 3d State House

The State House (also known as Government House) is located in Lusaka and was opened in 1935 as the official residence of the Governor of Northern Rhodesia. The building was designed by renowned British architect Sir Walcot who famous for designing government buildings in South Africa. The building was funded by Alfred Beit, a director in the British South Africa Company (BSAC).

The State House is a Government institution which is also the seat of the Presidency of the Republic of Zambia. The Presidency is charged with the critical responsibility of the overall governance of Zambia ensuring that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation is upheld for the sole purpose of protecting and safeguarding the country’s interests, its citizens and residents.
