Bahamas Philately: Ocean Spray Hotel

In 1967, the Ocean Spray Guest House on West Bay Street was sold by Si Moses to German proprietors Ernest and Olga Brokmeier (who were also proprietors of Gleneagles Hotel). The old guest house was demolished and replaced with a four storey hotel that was completed in March 1968. The new hotel was called the Ocean Spray Hotel and provided 32 air-conditioned rooms, a sun deck and roof garden.

Around 1970, a restaurant opened in the lobby of the hotel, on the eastern side, called Restaurant Europe (also appears as Europe Restaurant). The restaurant served some local Bahamian food but was more known for the German meals such as wiener schnitzel and sauerbraten.
