The Columbus Monument is located at Long Bay, on Landing Beach, and was erected by Columbian historian Ruth C. (Durlacher) Wolper and the people of San Salvador on 25th December 1956. The monument is a simple white cross which commemorates the first land discovered in the West Indies and the spot where Christopher Columbus first came ashore.
The inscription reads:
ON OR NEAR THIS SPOT
CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS
LANDED ON 12th OCTOBER 1492.”…Admiral S.E. Morison DS..R
