NTSC Presents: Queen Victoria Postal Stationery Used in British India

On 1st November 1858, the administration of the territories in India held in trust by the Honorable East India Company passed to the Crown, with Lord Canning as the first of a long line of Viceroys. Queen Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India on 1st/2nd January 1877, but the effect of this was not apparent on postal issues until later.

QV Postal Stationery was issued in different colour-represented formats, including Letter Envelopes, Envelopes, Newspaper wrappers, Official Mail, Registered Letters, Soldier’s and Sailor’s Letter, etc. Denzil Fernandes’ presentation discusses the use of these issues in British India.
