The T.S. Hanseatic was originally named the S.S. Shalom – a combined ocean liner/cruise ship built in 1964 by Chantiers de l’Atlantique, St Nazaire, France, for ZIM Lines, Israel, for transatlantic service from Haifa to New York.
On 9 November 1967, the Shalom was sold to the Deutsche Atlantik Line, becoming their second Hanseatic. She was used for cruising around North America and Europe but during 1968, she was also used on transatlantic service. However, after that year, German Atlantic decided to abandon liner service and concentrate solely on cruising.
In 1973, the Hanseatic was sold to Home Lines and became the Doric.
