Malawi Philately: 1975 Ships of Malawi – 15t Chauncy Maples

The M.V. Chauncy Maples was acquired by the Malawi Government in 1966 to provide a passenger service between Monkey Bay and intermediate ports to Nkhata Bay. The vessel was converted from steam to diesel and entered passenger service  with Malawi Railways in 1967, and was capable of carrying 180 passengers and 30 tons of cargo. During the late 1960s, the superstructure was extended.
