In March 1970, Air Malawi disposed the last of the Douglas DC-3s that had been supplied to Air Malawi when they were a subsidiary of Central African Airways. In November 1970 the airline leased a British Airways Corporation (BAC) One-Eleven from Zambia Airways on a two-year term.
With the addition of the BAC One-Eleven, Nairobi and Johannesburg were added to the fleet network.
