The Rhodes National Gallery was located in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. The gallery was officially opened by the Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth, on July 16, 1957. It was designed and directed by Frank McEwen, a British citizen credited with bringing Shona Sculpture to the spotlight.
The institution changed its name to the National Gallery of Rhodesia in 1972.
