In 1964, Lilongwe Hotel, Lilongwe, was one of the only private-owned hotels in Malawi. In 1969, the Government bought out the hotel.
In 1970, the hotel was extended and refurbished under Phase 3 of the Government’s Hotel Development Plan. Hallways Hotels (Overseas) Ltd managed the hotel. In April 1971, a new 21 bedroomed extension was constructed.
In 1979, the hotel added an additional 52 rooms.
