This stamp shows a low-level bridge or causeway. The majority of these bridges were built between 1926 and 1933 in an endeavour to improve Rhodesia’s road communications at a low cost. Grants from the Beit Trust provided some £106,336 for their construction. Although under water at times during a particularly heavy rainy season the bridges provided, and still do in some places, a sure and safe crossing point for most of the year.
