The Universal Postal Union, established by the Treaty of Bern of 1874, is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that coordinates postal policies among member nations, in addition to the worldwide postal system. The UPU’s headquarters are located in Bern, Switzerland.
The stamps depict the UPU Monument (Weltpostdenkmal) in Bern. It was created by René de Saint-Marceaux (1909) and is of bronze and granite and represents the five continents joined to transmit messages around the globe. It was adopted as the organization’s logo in 1967.
