Rhodesia Philately: 1971 Birds of Rhodesia – 2c African Hoopoe

The orange with black and white markings make the hoopoe distinctive. The crest is usually carried folded, but it may be raised and lowered as the bird walks across a lawn probing the ground for grubs and other insects. It is a savanna bird that has become adapted to man and may become very tame. It occurs throughout Rhodesia, but is seldom found in forest or heavy woodland.
