Bahamas Philately: Balcony House

Balcony House is located in Market St, Nassau. Balcony House is named for the long, second-floor balcony that stretched across the front of the home.

It was constructed in the 18th century in the Loyalist style and is the oldest existing wooden residential building in The Bahamas. In the mid-1800s, the house was the residence of Stephen Dillet, the Bahamas’ first-ever black member of the House of Assembly, as well as a justice of the peace and inspector of the Nassau Police.
