New World Museum is located at Cockburn Town, San Salvador Island. The museum building was originally a jail and the governor’s office. It was founded by Columbus scholar, Ruth G D Wolper Malvin in 1958 and is located near the Columbus Monument. It was dedicated on 16 October 1960 and was opened in honour of the landfall of Columbus. The museum contain local Indian and Columbus artefacts.
