Australia’s pastoral prosperity has its origins in the period 1810-1850 when the land was opened up by explorers and pioneers. The explorers pictured on this envelope are only four of the many who helped expand the horizons of the pioneers. In each case a detail from a larger portrait has been shown.
Stamp area: The desert interior by Samuel Thomas Gill, an artist who accompanied both Sturt and Horrocks on their expeditions, National Library of Australia.
