Australia Philately: 3175 – Dandenong

The original Dandenong post office was opened on 1 July 1848.

A building opened on Lonsdale Street in mid-1962 at a cost of £173,000. The building was constructed of concrete and steel, with aluminium windows fitted with vertical aluminium shutters. A rock garden was planted outside to compliment the row of ten aluminmum phone cabinets.

Dandenong became a first day of issue postmarker office on 11 November 1970.
