Australia Philately: 1979 Fishing In Australia

The last special issue for 1979 will be released on 24 October 1979 and will feature Fishing in Australia. The four denominations are 20c, 35c, 50c and 55c.

Fishing is a popular pastime for many Australians and thousdands of hours are spent each year angling in both inland and coastal waters.

The four stamps in this series reflect different aspects of non-commercial fishing. The 20c Trout Fishing stamp features the excitement of strenuous river fishing while the 35c Fishing for Pleasure stamp emphasizes the calm and tranquil aspect of recreational angling. The 50c Deep Sea Fishing stamp looks at the chase of the game fish, typified by the Black Marlin. The 55c Surf Fishing stamp captures the exhilaration of open surf beaches.

The four stamps and the pack will be available at all post offices from 24 October 1979 for approximately six weeks. They will remain on sale at philatelic sales centres until 24 October 1979, provided stocks last.
