Andrew Cunningham of the Toronto Postcard Club presents milestones in the early history of postcards, from the “invention” of the government postal card in Austria in 1869 through the “Golden Age” of the early 1900s and beyond. Using postcards from his collection, he shows early examples of Canadian and foreign postal cards, private postcards, postcards with local views, advertising cards, patriotics, “divided-back” cards, “real photo” cards, “linens” and more – all with a view to helping stamp collectors recognize postcard rarities when they come across them.
