Australia Philately: 1979 International Year of the Child

A 20c commemorative stamp will be issued on 13 August 1979 to celebrate International Year of the Child.

In December 1976 the General Assembly of the United Nations agreed that 1979 should be designated ‘International Year of the Child’. The year 1979 was most appropriate as this year celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, adopted by the U.N.’s General Assembly in November 1959.

This stamp will be available from all post offices for approximately two weeks from 13 August 1979 and will remain on sale at philatelic sales centres until 13 August 1980, provided stocks last.
