The presentation by Gregg Philipson, who is an avid Szyk collector, focuses on the career of Polish born Jewish artist Arthur Szyk. Szyk was known for his political and religious drawings, caricatures, book illustrations, illuminated manuscripts and watercolor/gouache paintings.
The presentation is designed to focus on the philatelic art of the artist from his early days in Poland to his later works in the USA. It highlights his philatelic endeavors with Kasimir Bileski, the famous Canadian philatelist of Winnipeg Canada. Szyk became one of the preeminent anti-Nazi and anti-Axis political cartoonists during the period from 1933 to 1945. His political and philatelic art carried on until his untimely death in 1951.
