Australia Philately: 1981 International Year of Disabled Persons

Australia Post will issue a 24c stamp on 16 September 1981 to commemorate the International Year of Disabled Persons. The stamp depicts paraplegic basketball players taking part in a basketball match. The design was prepared by Mr John Spatchurst of Sydney, who also designed the Community Welfare issue of 1980.

The stamp will be available from all post offices for approximately two weeks from 16 September 1981, and will remain on sale at philatelic sales centres until 31 March 1982, provided stocks last.
