A pre-stamped envelope, commemorating the 175th anniversary of the foundation of Hobart, will be released on 30 May 1979.
Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania and is situated in the south east of the island state. It is the second oldest capital city in Australia and was founded on the Derwent River.
Hobart was established in 1804 when Lieutenant-Colonel David Collins moved some of the inhabitants of an existing settlement atr Risdon Cove, Tasmania to the present site of Hobart. The city was named after Lord Hobart who was then Secretary of State for War and the Colonies.
