Southern Minerals (Pvt) Ltd was a mining consultancy business located in Salisbury. It appears the business may have been established by Lloyd E Daume, who in 1947, had set up a consultancy business associated with the Patino Group as a chief engineer. The postal address of the business is linked to Daume’s private residence in Salisbury.
In 1950 Daume became managing director of Southern Minerals and Marketing Corporation Pty Ltd, a Johannesburg-based company of consulting engineers appointed to Uruwira Minerals Ltd, Tanganyika. At this time, Southern Materials (Pvt) Ltd was established in Salisbury as the management agency to Uruwira Minerals Ltd. The same business later co-formed and operated Rhodesian Asbestos Limited with the Patino Group and others.
Daume returned to New York in 1955 to set up an independent mining consulting business and the last business activity for Southern Minerals is recorded in 1957.
