The Pompeian Manufacturing Company was established in 1906 in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The company produced the Pompeian Massage Cream along with other beauty products including rouge, hair cream, beauty powder, lipstick, cold cream, talcum powder, toilet water and perfume.
The company was sold to Colgate & Company in 1927. After Colgate’s amalgamation with Palmolive-Peet in 1928 and in 1930 the new company, Colgate-Palmolive-Peet, sold Pompeian.
The new consortium of owners consisted of Harold F. Ritchie of International Proprietaries Ltd., Canada; Floyd M. Shoemaker of the Shoemaker family, owners of the Frostilla Company; and Jacob F. Schoellkopf, Jr., acting on the behalf of the Niagara Share Corporation. The company was renamed as The Pompeian Company, Inc.
