A new Mareeba post office was constucted at a cost of £24,000. The contractors for building were Kynaston and Andrews of Cairns. The building was built of brick with terracotta tile roofing.
The official opening took place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 12 March 1952 by Cr. J M Brown, Chairmen of the Mareeba Shire Council. Also present was Mr C Faragher, the Director of Posts and Telegraphs.

Mareeba became a First Day of Issue postmarker office on 14 June 1972.
