Australia Philately: 1989 The Pastoral Era – 39c Shepherds

Shepherds, usually assigned convicts, were a vital elements in the infant Australian pastoral industry. They protected flocks from bad weather, bushrangers and Aboriginal hunters. The design is based on one of Joseph Lycett’s Views of Australia published in 1824.
