Stamps showing both Captain Cook’s ship, the Endeavour and the recently launched Endeavour replica will be issued by Australia Post on 9 February 1995. The stamps will be issued as a se-tenant pair of 45c stamps. The same two designs, in values of 20c and 4 x 45c, will also be used in a new Sterner vending machine stamp booklet.
The stamps feature a detail from a painting by marine artist, Oswald Brett, and a photograph of the Endeavour replica by John Lancaster. Brett has portrayed the crew of the Endeavour scrambling aloft to shorten sail as the ship runs before a strong southwesterly wind near Byron Bay. An Australian by birth. Brett has lived in the United States for many years. Photographer John Lancaster works for the HM Bark Endeavour Foundation in Fremantle. The Endeavour painting appears as a 45c stamp in both sheet form and in the Sterner booklet. The photograph of the Endeavour replica appears as a 45c stamp in sheet form and as a 20c value in the Sterner booklet.
