  1. The liner was also a shade faster than the Queen Mary and won the Blue Ribband on an early voyage, taking it from the Queen Mary. The SS United States would win it in the 1950s. The Elizabeth ended up in Hong Kong harbor as Seawise University, a play on the owner’s name – C. Y. Tung. The ship was being refitted as a floating school when a welder’s torch started a fire, and the ship was lost. Used in a James Bond film, she was then scrapped where she lay. A sad end to a mighty ship.
