As announced earlier, the Hartog stamp will appear on 24th October, 1966, coincidental with the opening of a philatelic exhibition in Perth, W.A., commemorating the 350th anniversary of the Dutch seaman’s landing on the coast at Shark Bay.
The designed is illustrated. Colours are : background blue; ship, rhumb lines and lettering on plaque black; circle orange-red; “Dirk Hartog 1616” and “4 CENTS” gold. Design size is 22 mm x 34.5 mm, and sheet content is 48.
The lettering on the plaque — “1616 : DEN 25 OCTOBER IS HIER AENGECOMEN HET SCHIP D’ EENDRAGHT” — is a facsimile of part of the plaque erected by Hartog to mark his visit, and later recovered by Vlamingh.”
