Another new stamp will appear on 5th April, 1967, to mark the 150th anniversary of the beginning of banking Australia. Governor Lachlan Macquarie and a group of Sydney citizens established the first bank — the Bank of New South Wales — in 1817, and the first deposit was made on 5th April of that year.
The banking stamp was designed by Mr. Gordan Andrews, of Sydney. It will show a modern combination lock and antique wrought iron keys, summarizing the growth of banking from its beginnings to its importance in the present economy.
Like the Bible Society stamp, this issue will also be printed by photogravure, in the large size (34.5 mm x 22 mm printed area). The Banking stamp will be in horizontal format.
