A 4c stamp will be issued on 20th September, 1967, to mark the Fifth World Congress of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, which will be held in Sydney from 23rd to 30th September. The stamp will be on sale for about two weeks.
The stamp design, by Mr. Robert Ingpen of Melbourne, shows two seated female figures in an anatomy textbook style; on the figure at left, black circles indicate areas related to gynaecology, and on the right-hand figure white circles show the areas related to obstetrics. Between the two figure, the universal medical and biologocial symnbol for “female” is shown twice with the white symbol superimposed on the black to emphasize medical science’s desire for good health to prevail. The black and white relationships are repeated in the caption; “GYNAECOLOGY” is in black, and “OBSTETRICS” in white, to relate the words to their respective anatomical areas. The human figures are printed in blue and indigo, and the background is light reddish violet.
The stamps were printed in photogravuee, in sheets of 100, on helecon paper by the Note Printing Branch, Reserve Bank of Australia. Stamp size (excluding perforations) is 34.5 mm x 22 mm.
