The 3c Coral Crab stamp of the Marine Life definitive series, which was originally printed on Shoalhaven KP5D unwatermarked coated paper incorporating helecon has now been reprinted on KP6T gravure paper. The new printing on KP6T paper was first distributed as follows: N.S.W., 23.9.74; Vic, 20.9.74; Qld, 20.9.74; S.A., 25.9.74; W.A., 24.9.74; Tas, 25.9.74.
The main distinct visual difference between the original printing of the 3c Reticulated Coral Crab on KP5D paper and the new printing on KP6T paper, using new cylinders, are as follows: the olive-green background colour is more light olive in tone; the black typography is less sharp than that of earlier printings; and the general colouring of the crab is of a duller nature than previously, particularly in the crab’s eyes which are lighter in tone.
