Australia Philately: 1975 10c Coil Stamp

A new 10c coil definitive stamp, featuring the 7c Sturt’s Desert Pea design, modified to show the 10c denomination, was issued on 15th January, 1975.

A limited number of stamp vending machines which previously dispensed 7c coil stamps have been converted to dispense 10c stamps, which are also available from Australian Post Office philatelic sales centres.

The 10c coil stamp was printed by multicolour photogravure on the Chambon machine at the Note Printing Branch of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Melbourne, in continuous rolls, on unwatermarked KP5D coated stamp paper incorporating helecon. Content of each roll is 1,000. Dimensions of the stamp are 20.25 mm x 24.05 mm and the perforations are the usual 10 holes at 0.40″ diameter and six holes at 0.35″ diameter.

Four cylinders were used to print the coil stamp. Colours, in order of printing, were olive-bistre, green, vermillion and black.
