An 18c stamp to commemorate the 50th anniversary of C.S.I.R.O. is being issued on the 15th June, 1976, for two weeks sale at post offices and up to twelve months sale at philatelic sales centres, providing stocks last. The stamp was designed by Mr. Robert Ingpen of Melbourne, and shows a hand holding a measuring device against a background of a graph and a computer tape, symbolizing the two activities which are basic information to all scientific work – measuring and recording. Mr. Ingpen also designed the two official first day covers associated with the issue.
The stamp measures 37.75 mm x 24.15 mm and was printed by multicolour photogravure at the Note Issue Department of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Melbourne, on unwatermarked paper incorporating luminescence, on the Rembrandt machine, and issued in sheets of 100.
