Australia Philately: 1979 Australian Paintings

A $5 definitive stamp featuring a reproduction of Sir Arthur Streeton’s painting, ‘McMahon’s Point’ will be issued on 14 March 1979.

The $5 stamp replaces the $4 Australian Paintings definitive series stamps, ‘Shearing the Rams’ issued on 24 April 1974. The $4 stamp will remain on sale at philatelic sales centres until 14 March 1980, until stocks last.

Souvenir Pack

The $5 stamp will be available in a souvenir pack for $A5.15. Technical details of the stamp and background information on Sir Arthur Streeton are printed on the inside cover of the pack. 

The stamp and souvenir pack will be available from all post offices from 14 March 1979.

First Day Cover No.125 (Official)

First day cover no. 125 (190 mm x 101 mm) has been provided for the issue. The unserviced cover costing $A0.12 will be available from 7 March 1979. It will be available with the $5 stamp affixed and postmarked on the first day of issue, 14 March 1979 for $A5.12.
