Australia Philately: 1979 Ferries and Murray River Steamers

The first special issue for 1979 will feature ferries and Murray River steamers. There are four stamps in the issue and they will go on sale on 14 February 1979. The values are 20c, 35c, 50c and 55c.

The stamps and the pack will be available at all post offices from 14 February 1979 for approximately six weeks. They will remain on sale at philatelic sales centres until 14 February 1980, provided stocks last.

The four stamps will be available in a souvenir pack for $A1.75. Technical and background information reagrding the stamps is printed on the inside cover of the pack.

First Day Cover No.124 (Official)

One first day cover (190 mm x 101 mm), numbered 124, has been provided for the issue. It will be available unserviced for $A0.12 from 7 February 1979. The cover with the four stamps affixed and postmarked 14 February 1979, will cost $A1.72.
