A commemorative pre-stamped envelope will be issued on 20 August 1980 to mark the centenary of the Y.W.C.A. in Australia.
The Young Women’s Christian Association is the world’s largest international women’s movement. The Y.W.C.A. was founded in England in 1855 and Australia in 1880.
The Association’s work in Australia encmpasses a diverse range of activities – all with the overal aim of assisting women and girls to achieve their full human potential. Clubs and centres for leisure time and recreational activities, accommodation in motels, hostels and flats for women, men and young children, camps for underprivileged children, ‘Y’ Women’s clubs and correspondence courses are just some of the activities by the Y.W.C.A.
The Y.W.C.A. was formed, on the basis of Christian ideals, to serve and work with people in more than 80 countries all over the world and the Australian Y.W.C.A. plays an important role in the works carried out bu the World Y.W.C.A.
As part of the World Y.W.C.A. the Association is involved in emergency and rehabilitation projects in developing countries as well as assistance to refugees and migrants. This help is provided to the needy regardless of religious, social, political, national and racial differences.

Pre-Stamped Envelope No.028
The envelope, measuring 190 mm x 101 mm and numbered 028, was designed by Doug Pitt of Melbourne and carries a 22c denomination. It will be available over the counter at all Australia Post philatelic sales centres, at a cost of $A0.28, for twelves months from the date of issue, provided stocks last.
First day of issue postmarked envelopes will be available at these centres until 2 September, provided stocks last.
