Australia Philately: 1980 Dogs of Australia

The first special issued for 1980 will feature Dogs of Australia and will go on sale 20 February 1980. There are five stamps and the values are 20c, 25c, 35c, 50c, 55c.

The dogs featured in this special issue are the Dingo, and the four working dogs of Australia, the Border Collie, the Australian Cattle Dog, the Australian Kelpie and surprisingly enough, the Australian Terrier. Except for the Dingo, which is endemic to the Australian continent, all the other breeds have been evolved in Australia to suit Australian conditions. Although the Australian Terrier was originally developed as a working dog, nowadays they are mainly kept as household pets.

The stamps and stamp pack will be available at all post offices from 20 February 1980 for approximately six weeks. They will remain on sale at philatelic sales centres until 20 February 1981, provided stocks last.
