A new commemorative pre-stamped envelope will be issued on 29 September 1980 to celebrate the National Stamp Exhibition – Sydpex ’80, which is being held in the Sydney Town Hall from 19 September to 6 October 1980.
The envelope design features an illustration of the Sydney Post Office in 1850 and the stamp area illustration shows the Sydney Views – the first three stamps issued by the colony of New South Wales in 1850.
The Sydney Views were actually the first adhesive postage stamps to be issued in Australia. The stamps were issued on 1 January 1850, two days before the Colony of Victoria issued its first stamp.
The design of Various aspects of life in early Sydney were featured in the design including industry, agriculture and newly arriving convicts.
The original plates for the three stamps were re-engraved several times during the course of their use and many variations in shae and deisgn detail occurred.

Pre-Stamped Envelope No.029
The envelope, measuring 190 mm x 101 mm and numbered 029, was designed by Australia Post’s Graphic Design Section and carries a 22c denomination. It will be available over the counter at all Australia Post philatelic sales centres, at a cost of $A0.28, until 30 April 1981, provided stocks last.
First day of issue postmarked envelopes will be available at these centres until 10 October 1980, provided stocks last.
