Australia Post will issue a new pre-stamped envelope on 21 October 1981 to commemorate the Fifth Session of the World Heritage Committee, which is to be held at the Sydney Opera House from 26-30 October 1981.
The pre-stamped envelope illustrates items from the World Heritage invetory: Urnes stave church, Norway; Sagarmatha (Mt Everest), Nepal; an Iguana, aquatic reptile of the Galapagos Islands, and the Palace of Versailles, France. The stamp area illustrateshand stencils, an art form common to many cultures including the original inhabitants of Australia.
The twenty-one member World Heritage Committee, when it meets in Sydney, will consider further additions to the inventory of World Heritage, including such Australian nominations as the Great Barrier Reef.

The envelope was designed by Australia Post’s Graphic Design Section. It measures 190 mm x 101 mm and is numbered 045. The envelope will be available from all Australia Post philatelic sales centres until 31 May 1982 provided stocks last. The cost of the envelope is $A0.31.
First day of issue postmarked envelopes will be available at these centres until 3 November 1981 provided stocks last.
