Australia Post will issue a new pre-stamped envelope on 6 October 1982 to commemorate the staging in Brisbane of the Australian National Philatelic Exhibition, ANPEX 82.
The ANPEX 82 exhibition is the major Australian philatelic event of the year and the first national philatelic exhibition ever mounted in Queensland. It will be held at the RNA Industrial Pavillion, Brisbane, from 11 to 17 October1982, in the week following the conclusion of the XII Commonwealth Games.
ANEPEX 82 is sponsored jointly by the Philatelic Association of Queensland, Queensland Stamp Promotion Council, Australian Stamp Dealers Association, Stamp and Coin Dealers Association of Queensland, Australia Post and the Australian Stamp Promotion Council.
The design of the envelope was prepared by the Australia Post Graphic Design Section. In the stamp area it reproduces the one pound issue of 1883, one of the most attractive of Queensland’s colonial stamp issues. The stamp shows a portrait of Queen Victoria, adapted from a painting by Alfred Edward Chalon. The illustration on the left is of the Brisbane Post Office as it appearedwhen first opened in 1872 while, above the illustration, the envelope title is displayed in the style of a decorative banner taken froma Queensland postcard of the 1870’s.
