Australia Post will issue six new stamps on 12 March 1986. The stamps honour Cook’s Voyage and form part of the on-going Australian Bicentennial Collection. In particular, the stamps pay homage to the work of Cook’s best-known companion on the Endeavour, the botanist Joseph Banks.
Early in his career James Cook established a reputation as a reliable, accurate navigator and chartmaker. Cook was considered to be a keen observer and an excellent ship’s master. With these sturdy qualities he was a worthy choice to command one of history’s great voyages of discovery.
