Australia Philately: 1986 Restored Historic Public Buildings – 36c The Mint, Sydney

As one of Sydney’s oldest public buildings, the Mint is very much part of Australia’s early colonial history. Originally the southern wing of Governor Macquaire’s grand and ambitious “Rum” Hospital, it housed Australia’s first mint from 1854 to 1927. It has recently been restored by the New South Wales Government as a musem of Australian decorative arts, coins and stamps.
