The new Essendon post office was opened in November 1964 at a cost of £32,000. The office used bright, corrosion resistant aluminum for the rows of telephone cabinets facing the street, the front doors and window surrounds, interior partitions, light fittings and furniture. The new post office was constructed on the site of the older building.
