A new post office was opened at Cheltenham on 29 November 1974. It was designed and supervised by the Department of Housing and Construction. Documentation of the project was by Oscar A. T. Gimesy and Associates. The building was constructed by T. W. Morris and Son Pty Ltd of Mordialloc at a cost of $185,684.
