Australia Philately: Glenelg (5045)

The Glenelg post office was opened at 8.30am, 30 April 1912. Present at the opening were the Deputy Postmaster-General (Mr R M Waddy), Mr H W Varley, and the Postmaster (Mr Hillman). Located at Moseley Square, the building at a cost of £3,000 pounds. It was described as an ‘ornament to the town’ and provided space for letter sorting, telegram writing, ‘telephone rooms’ and a switchboard staffed by ‘lady operators’.

The post office remains in use today.
